Dry Needling

Functional Dry Needling

Reger Physical Therapy is extremely proud to offer functional dry needling. Functional dry needling is considered one of the most effective treatments for improving limited range of motion and decreasing pain due to the presence of isolated, tight/hypertonic bands of muscular tissue (known as “trigger point”). In this treatment, a highly skilled and comprehensively trained licensed physical therapist uses palpation skills to examine, evaluate, and diagnose the presence of a functional. When a functional is located, the licensed physical therapist is then able to offer this treatment and obtain the client’s consent. The treatment itself consists of the insertion of a thin, solid needle into the functional causing a reflex relaxation response reducing pain and improving mobility. Reger Physical Therapy has been providing this treatment since 2015 and remains grateful for its adjunct use in the rehabilitation of our clients. Please do not hesitate to contact us to speak to one of our licensed physical therapists if you have questions about this novel and tremendously effective form of treatment.

Dry Needling (DN) is a skilled intervention used by physical therapists (where allowed by state law) that uses a thin filiform needle to penetrate the skin and stimulate underlying myofascial functional, neural, muscular, and connective tissues for the management of neuromusculoskeletal pain and movement impairments. Research supports that dry needling improves pain control, reduces muscle tension, normalizes biochemical and electrical dysfunction of motor endplates, and facilitates an accelerated return to active rehabilitation.
